Chocolate and orange potato cake

Sounds strange tastes wicked!


Serves a family of 4


you'll need -

  1. 120g/4oz potatoes, boiled, peeled and mashed

  2. 6oz butter

  3. 225g/8oz demerara sugar

  4. 3 eggs, beaten

  5. 110g/4oz plain chocolate, melted

  6. 1 orange, rind and juice

  7. 225g/8oz self raising flour

  8. 30g/1oz cocoa, sieved



  • Preheat oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.

  • Grease and line a 24cm/9½in cake tin.

  • Cream the butter, potato and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Beat in the eggs.

  • Stir in the chocolate and orange rind and juice.

  • Fold in the flour and cocoa and turn the mixture into the cake tin.

  • Cook for 30-40 minutes.

  • Cool and dust with icing sugar or serve warm with cream.
